Dedicated to making a difference in the world around them, Charles and Tanya Brandes have a profound impact in business, the arts and sciences. An unassuming and beautiful couple, their genuine personalities shine through with humor, kindness and a concern for others. Charles and Tanya are accomplished, highly educated, hard working and worldly and it is San Diegos culture, geography, architecture and people that made them decide to call it home. Originally from Pittsburgh, Charles earned his BA in economics from Bucknell University and has published three books on investing. Currently, Charles is Chairman of the Executive Committee of Brandes Investment Partners where he is responsible for strategic decisions and monitoring the implementation of the firms vision and objectives. Tanya is originally from Los Angeles and lived in South Africa, Europe and New York before finally making San Diego her home. A graduate from the University of Southern California, Tanya went on to receive her MD from Stanford University School of Medicine. Their philosophy in business is to find the thing you most enjoy and make it your lifes work and that a positive attitude with discipline, focus, and ethics will always rise to the top. Through The Tanya & Charles Brandes Foundation and under Tanyas direction, the couples support for the arts, sciences, health, education and the environment reaches throughout San Diego, the United States and the world. In San Diego alone, the Foundation contributes annually to fifty organizations, institutions and causes. Outside of San Diego, the Foundation supports such worthy and notable causes as the Musée du Louvre, Versailles, the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Support for healthcare programs in developing countries is also important with Tanya volunteering her services as a physician. Even environmental causes are addressed as the Galapagos Islands and Sea Turtle habitats in Baja California are supported. Charles and Tanya both believe that everyone can make a difference by following your interests and talking to people in your neighborhood, at work, school or at your place of worship whatever your interest, volunteers are always needed. With all their hard work and support of charities, it is hard to imagine how they have time for themselves. But for as hard as they work, they certainly manage to have a fun. Their idea of a romantic time together is driving cars on the racetrack trying to beat each others laptime both Charles and Tanya are car enthusiasts and collectors. Their love of nature and the outdoors can be seen everywhere from the outsidecomesinside design of their beautiful home, to their hobbies and travels. Charles plays soccer every Sunday and the couple loves to ride horses on the equestrian trails near their home. The key to Charles and Tanyas amazing relationship has been that they are one anothers best friends supportive in the rough times and celebrating in the good. Most importantly, they find something to make each other laugh every day. A través de la Fundación de Tanya y de Charles Brandes, bajo la dirección de la misma Tanya, la pareja apoya a las artes, ciencias, salud, educación y el ambiente a través de San Diego, Estados Unidos y el mundo. En San Diego, la fundación contribuye anualmente a cincuenta organizaciones, instituciones y causas. Mientras que fuera de éste, la fundación apoya las causas dignas y notables tales como el Musée du Louvre, Versalles, el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York y el Museo de Arte del Condado de Los Ángeles. Apoya a programas de salud en países en vías de desarrollo, incluso Tanya dona sus servicios como médico. También se tratan las causas ambientales, al apoyar las Islas Galápagos y tortuga marina en Baja California. Charles y Tanya creen que cada uno podemos hacer la diferencia, hablando con la gente del vecindario, en el trabajo, escuela o en su lugar de esparcimiento, lo que sea de interés, ya que los voluntarios siempre son necesarios. Con todo lo que trabajan y ayudan, es difícil imaginarse cómo tienen tiempo para ellos mismos. Pero también encuentran la manera de divertirse. Su idea de un tiempo romántico juntos es manejando autos de carreras en un circuito intentando batir el tiempo más rápido, ya que son entusiastas aficionados y coleccionistas de automóviles. El amor que le tienen a la naturaleza y el aire libre se puede ver por todas partes, ya que se respira desde el diseño de su hermoso hogar hasta en sus pasatiempos y viajes. Charles juega a fútbol cada domingo y a la pareja le fascina montar a caballo en los senderos cercanos a su casa.
